Waipi'o Valley from the lookout at the end of the road. This is the southernmost of the valleys along the northeast coast of Hawaii (Pololu is the northernmost). Taro is still farmed here.

The valley is a sacred place for native Hawaiians, and said to be where King Kamehameha spent his youth. The tsumani of 1946 completely scoured the valley, but no lives were lost here.
