Puukohola Heiau in Kawaihae. This heiau was built by King Kamehameha as a temple to the war god Ki. He invited a rival chief from the southern part of the island to its dedication. When the chief and his dignitaries arrived, they were killed as they landed their canoes. Kamehameha was then well on his way to uniting all of Hawaii under his control.

This ground is sacred to native Hawaiians, and only they are allowed to enter the heiau.
